Besides playing Videos and Graphics, our software also allow you to play out live input signals such as live studio signals or satellite feeds, by sending them to the selected output device.

We support switch to live in SDHD and UHD, where the incoming signal must match the output format, defined for the channel.

Using an SDI based workflow, this can be done by…

  • …using the more traditional way by controlling a mixer/router.

  • …configuring the Playout Video device to do so.

Using the SDI based playout video device to switch to the Live Input signal means, that the video card synchronizes to the incoming video and not to the reference signal. To stabilize the signal in advance (i.e., before it is sent to the video card input) we recommend to use a frame synchronizer which supports the playout format of your channel. Suited frame synchronizers can be found on the AJA Website or you can also use a Blackmagic Design ATEM switcher. If VANC data pass-through is required, an AJA FSx device (except for the mini), or any other frame store which allows passing through VANC data, has to be used. Please contact the manufacturer of all 3rd party video devices which are used with your setup to make sure, that they can handle the VANC data as needed.

With SDI based Switch to Live activated, the Live Input signal is grabbed from the SDI input and send to the Just Out engine. This process adds a delay of approximately 10 frames to the Live Input signal. This means that the signal, which has been received 10 frames ago, is visible at the output.

  • Works with all SDI based devices, except the AJA KONA LHi and KONA LHe Plus.

  • Works in case the engine is set up using an NDI®, SRT or UDP stream as the input stream.

  • Works in SDHD and UHD, depending on the capabilities of the device used for playout.

  • The incoming signal must match the output format defined for the channel.

  • The In and Output “device” can be different. This means, that it does not matter if the “input device” is an AJA or Blackmagic Design hardware or a stream, the output can be a AJA/BMD device or a supported stream.

  • Live Input signal can be seen in the On Air view of the Just Control user interface.

  • VANC data which comes with the Live Input signal can be passed through to the output and can (optionally) be seen as overlay in the On Air (channel) window.
